Runners and Walkers unite to impact hunger in the Northland
A slightly misty and cool morning greeted the 457 runners and walkers who participated in our 4th annual Bill Cross 5K Run/Walk for BackSnacks. A few running clubs from northland elementary schools, a great warm up by Zona Yoga and a live band “His Feminine Hips”. created an energetic and fun vibe to the event. Congratulations to those who won trophies and first, second and third place medals for your age group! After taking the trophy for the school with the most participants for three years, Weston Elementary relinquished the trophy to Line Creek Elementary. Many thanks to all our sponsors, who make this event possible each year. We value your investment in our efforts to impact our kids here in the Northland.
Targeting Stress At School
Today’s Kansas City Star has a article featuring a program piloted in two local elementary schools, designed to help kids handle anxiety and trauma.
The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determined that nearly two-thirds of U.S. children suffer at least one type of traumatic experience such as abuse, neglect or household dysfunction. Nearly four in 10 children suffer multiple kinds of experiences, and 12.5 percent experience four or more. Read more here:
Feeding our children is just one of several ways we can ensure we provide all they will need to grow into healthy, happy and productive adults.
